Free oral care for kids, teens available at Penn College on Nov. 9

Tuesday, October 8, 2024

On Saturday, Nov. 9, Pennsylvania College of Technology will provide free dental care to children and teens age 7-18.

From 9 a.m. to noon in the college’s Dental Hygiene Clinic, volunteer dentists and dental hygienists and Penn College students will provide free oral screenings, sealants and education during an activity dubbed “Sealant Saturday.” Appointments are required and can be made by calling 570-320-8007.

During a 2023 Sealant Saturday event in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Dental Hygiene Clinic, students KyLeigh L. Alexander (left), of Portage, and Julie K. Wangler, of  Lancaster, examine a child’s teeth. Free oral care – including the placement of sealants where appropriate – will again be available to children and teens age 7-18 during the college’s next Sealant Saturday, Nov. 9. Call 570-320-8007 to make an appointment. Alexander and Wangler are pursuing bachelor’s degrees in dental hygiene. Both completed associate degrees in dental hygiene in May.

Sealants are clear, protective plastic coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to help prevent tooth decay. They will be applied as needed and will not be placed where tooth decay is present.

Penn College has been a Sealant Saturday host since 2003. More than 1,000 individuals have received free dental care in the Penn College Dental Hygiene Clinic as part of the initiative.

The clinic is on the second floor of the Breuder Advanced Technology & Health Sciences Center and offers low-cost services to the public. For more information, visit the clinic site.
