In a week leading up to the start of United East Conference play, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s and men’s soccer teams combined to win four of five matches. UE play starts on Saturday for both squads and on Oct. 1 for the women’s volleyball team.
Women’s Soccer
The Wildcats got a five-goal first half en route to an 8-0 home win over Mt. Aloysius College as they increased their unbeaten streak to six on Wednesday. Brooke Klinger of Herndon and Megan Kurian of Royersford both scored twice and Cassie Johnson of Richland had three assists to pace the offense, while Nicole Lichtinger of Erie made two saves in goal to record her fourth shutout of the season.
Penn College extended its season unbeaten string to seven and recorded its second straight shutout with a 9-0 win at Carlow University on Saturday. Kurian had two goals and two assists, and Rylee Oliphant of Red Lion had two goals and one assist, while goalie Lichtinger made five saves in her fifth shutout of the campaign.
At first-time opponent LaRoche University on Sunday, the Wildcats won 7-2 and went to 5-0-3 overall. Kurian led the offense with three goals and one assist and Oliphant scored twice for the second day in a row, while Morgan Solano of Shavertown had two saves in goal.

Men’s Soccer
A 4-1 home win over first-time foe Pitt-Bradford gave the Wildcats their fifth straight match without a loss on Tuesday. Jimmy Friedman of East Greenville scored twice, Tommy DeGeyter of Long Valley, New Jersey, added a goal and an assist, and the defense limited winless Pitt-Bradford to two shots on goal.
Hosting first-time opponent Ramapo College on Saturday, Penn College lost 4-1, getting its lone goal from Austin Stapleton of Chambersburg in the 59th minute.

Men’s Golf
Penn College tied for 11th in a 14-team field after rounds of 305-303—608 in The Gauntlet at Bucknell Golf Club on Sunday and Monday. Individually, Peyton Mussina of Montoursville shot rounds of 72-70—142 and tied for ninth.
Also, Mussina was named the United East Men’s Golfer of the Week after he finished fourth in an 80-player field at the Albright Fall Invitational on Sept. 9, marking the seventh such honor of his three-year career for the senior.

Women’s Volleyball
Hosting King’s College on Tuesday, Penn College lost 3-0. Among the Wildcats’ leaders were Kathryn Burnett of Wellsboro with 16 assists, Jo Hess of Jersey Shore with 13 digs and Nevaeh Ward of Odenton, Maryland, with nine kills.
In Thursday’s 3-0 home loss to Penn State Altoona, Hess had 16 digs, Burnett 12 assists and Ward six kills.
On Saturday at York College, Penn College lost 3-0 as Burnett led with 12 digs and six assists.

Back in action on Sunday at Lock Haven University, the women’s team lost 6-1, with Murray at No. 2 singles again the lone winner.

Last of the CATS (Celebrating Athletic Triumphs and Successes)
Penn College finished rewarding its student-athletes and coaching staff with the remaining 2023-24 CATS awards on Wednesday, including One Shining Moment, Coach of the Year, Assistant Coach of the Year, Scholar Team and the Wildcat Cup.
One Shining Moment Award: Mussina earned the 2023-24 One Shining Moment award after making the cut at the 2024 NCAA Division III National Golf Championship, where he had a four-day total of 286 to finish tied for 17th in the country. For his achievement, Mussina also was named co-Male Athlete of the Year, sharing the award with previously announced Gavin Barrett of Roselle, New Jersey (men’s basketball). During the 2023-24 season, Mussina earned individual medalist honors and Golfer of the Year at the United East Conference Championship while leading the Wildcats to their second consecutive team title and also was selected to the PING/GCAA All-Region Team and Cobalt/GCAA All-America Scholar honors.
Coach and Assistant Coach of the Year Awards: The softball staff of head coach Angie Stackhouse and assistant coach Gary Clark. Stackhouse and Clark guided their team to the best United East record (15-5, 30-12 overall) in the regular season en route to the 2024 United East Championship, with seven all-conference selections, three all-region selections and a National Freshman of the Year finalist as the Wildcats earned their second trip to the NCAA Regional Championships since 2021.
Scholar Team Award: Men’s cross-country, with the highest combined grade point average (3.6 GPA) for the 2023-24 academic year.
Wildcat Cup Award (recognizing a team’s cumulative performance in the classroom, in the community, on the field and participation in supporting all athletic teams): Women’s basketball.
