College names Clean Energy Center executive director

Jason K. Embick has been appointed executive director of the Clean Energy Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Embick had been serving on the Clean Energy Center’s leadership team as director of training operations. He joined the center in 2015 and has fulfilled multiple roles, including instructional specialist, special projects coordinator and assistant director.

Embick brings to his new position a range of building science expertise and manufacturing experience.

As director of training operations, Embick was responsible for managing core training operations to meet ongoing workforce training needs, supervising instructional design and coordination of staff, and leading the college’s effort to successfully register an Energy Specialist apprenticeship in Pennsylvania. He brings subject matter expertise in teaching the center’s commercial and residential building science courses, national certification proctoring, maintaining Interstate Renewable Energy Council training program accreditation, and developing industry partnerships.

“Jason has a proven track record of successfully implementing the center’s workforce development programming in a rapidly growing market,” said Alison A. Diehl, vice president for workforce development at Penn College. “His deep understanding of the clean energy workforce and dedication to innovation will continue to drive impactful solutions to address industry needs.”

Embick holds multiple national industry certifications, such as OSHA 30; EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Certified Lead Renovator; and numerous Building Performance Institute certifications.

Before joining Penn College, Embick spent over 25 years in manufacturing with numerous roles, including quality assurance technician, electrical maintenance mechanic, controls specialist, team leader and continuous improvement master trainer.

A Penn College alumnus, Embick earned degrees in industrial maintenance technology, electromechanical maintenance technology and electrical technology.

Shaped by 40 years of experience, the Clean Energy Center at Penn College is recognized as one of the top building science training providers in the country. Its core mission is to provide workforce training, industry certifications and workforce solutions to the green building sector, with a focus on energy-efficient retrofits, building science and building decarbonization. The center specializes in hands-on, competency-based training that teaches frontline workforce techniques to reduce energy consumption and improve the comfort and safety of buildings.

In addition to its Reach Road headquarters and training site, the Clean Energy Center has training centers in Latrobe and Harrisburg, with a Pittsburgh facility slated to open in early 2025. A Clean Energy House, to be constructed on Penn College’s main campus, is also part of the center’s latest initiatives.
