Thursday, September 5, 2024

Capturing the "arcs and sparks" of Pennsylvania College of Technology's largest major, "Welding & Beyond" taps the knowledge and expertise of Michael R. Allen, welding instructor and co-department head. The second guest of the second season of the Tomorrow Makers podcast, Allen shares his journey from welding on the family farm to teaching in Penn College's cutting-edge, industry-infused welding program.

In the enlightening conversation, the college alumnus explores the depths and heights of the welding world and shares his tips for young people (and their parents) hoping to get their foot in the door. He also offers encouraging insights on the growing success of the major's female students.

From his early days of underwater welding to the college's latest explorations in non-destructive testing, robotics and electron beam welding, Allen covers some territory! Also discussed are the accomplishments of graduates working in a range of industries from manufacturing to nuclear power, aerospace to automotive.
