A "Community Mandala" is a popular activity at Penn College's annual "Taste the World." Students could contribute to the artwork, painting with glue and adding colored powders.

About 130 Penn College students enjoyed “Taste the World” on Wednesday, with picture-perfect September weather greeting the global guests. The mid-day event, held on the Bush Campus Center patio, featured giveaways, activities and free food catered by The Empanada Shack and UpTop Cuisine. The annual Student Engagement gathering continued to be a popular one with the campus community (employees included).

Among the happenings: Students could contribute to a “Community Mandala” and learn about the historical and religious significance of Tibetan sand mandalas; “Guess the Country Trivia” had attendees guessing countries based on a series of three significant emojis; “African Geography Quiz” encouraged students to match the name and picture of an African landmark and learn myths and facts about Africa; and “ASL Trivia + Craft” engaged guests in trivia about Deaf culture and offered the opportunity to use American Sign Language hand signs to craft a phrase or word for display.

Urie Kline, a regional percussionist and founder of the World Drumming Lab, an applied multicultural drumming course at Lycoming College, returned to the event to share his talents as the performing artist.
