Penn College’s surgical technology program hosted about 30 professionals on campus Saturday to provide four hours of continuing education.
The annual continuing education event is devised to show appreciation to the dedicated professionals who act as preceptors to Penn College surgical technology students at their clinical sites.
Attendees, many of them Penn College alumni, included certified surgical technologists and certified surgical first assistants from Evangelical Community Hospital, Guthrie Corning Hospital, University Orthopedic Center UPMC Williamsport and UPMC Wellsboro.
Four leading surgeons volunteered their time and expertise to present:
- “The Surgical Implications of Charcot Neuroarthropathy in the Lower Extremities,” Dr. Christine Nolan, UPMC
- “Robotic Colon Surgery,” Dr. Amy Curry, UPMC
- “Robotic Surgery: Past, Present and Future,” Dr. Natasha Alligood, UPMC
- “Lower Extremity Bypass,” Dr. Benjamin Chang, UPMC
Those who attended received four live continuing education credits, required for certification renewal.
