Kenworth of PA donates first-of-its-kind engine to diesel labs
Monday, April 22, 2024
Kenworth of Pennsylvania has donated a Paccar MX 13 engine to Pennsylvania College of Technology. The equipment is the first MX engine introduced into the college’s diesel technology labs, stirring enthusiasm from students and faculty.
“The engine instructors are excited to have an engine with an in-block camshaft design,” reported Brad R. Conklin, diesel equipment technology instructor. “Students were also excited to have the engine donated! One student could not wait to get in lab and start to work on it. Two other students who are going to be working with Kenworth of Pennsylvania after graduation in May came outside to meet the company reps when they delivered the engine. Kenworth of Pennsylvania values what we do here at Penn College and is eager to hire our graduates.”
The donation will give students real-world experience in diagnosing and repairing Paccar engines.
“Kenworth of Pennsylvania has always recognized the needs we have here at Penn College to better help educate our students,” Conklin added. “They have partially or fully donated five Thermo King refrigeration units, several engines, a Kenworth truck, parts and countless hours of training and support.
“Penn College is a valued partner for Kenworth of Pennsylvania recruitment and workforce development,” said Tony Wiser, director of service operations, Kenworth of Pennsylvania. “We appreciate the opportunity to share this technology and further promote the opportunities with Kenworth to the students.”
The Kenworth of Pennsylvania Advanced Electrical Diagnostics Lab and the Motor Truck Thermo King Refrigeration Lab were designated during a Spring 2023 event at the college’s Schneebeli Earth Science Center. Both companies are part of Motor Truck Equipment Co. and recognized as members of the Visionary Society (donations of $100,000 to $499,999) on the college’s Donor Wall. They also partner with the college as Corporate Tomorrow Makers.
“We thank Kenworth of Pennsylvania for this impactful gift for our students,” said Elizabeth A. Biddle, senior corporate relations director. “Experience on advanced technology positions our students for career opportunities in an ever-changing workforce, while serving our corporate partners with graduates who have the desired skills our partners need in technicians.”
