'Concrete Science'

Friday, March 15, 2024

"Imagine a world without concrete" is the charge leveled by alumnus Joe DiBucci, building construction technology instructor, in the latest episode of Pennsylvania College of Technology's "Tomorrow Makers" podcast. "Concrete Science" brings loads of laughs and lots of insight about the world's most widely used building material — concrete.

The Pittsburgh native pours out his passion for the field (and rocks, in general) and shares his foundation (a family business started by his great-grandfather). DiBucci also discusses the student ConCreate Design Club on campus, new technologies and materials, and concrete's vast potential and promising salaries: "Lots of opportunity. All 100% placement rate. All the past students in the degree, they're all in jobs right now."

Join this energized conversation as the guest "flips the script" on podcast co-hosts Sumer Beatty and Carlos Ramos. And don't miss these tidbits:

  • "There's so much new technology coming out of the industry," DiBucci says. "It's very interesting to be a part of it because it's an ever-changing material."
  • DiBucci carries concrete in his pockets?!
  • Oh, and this quote: "It's like baking a cake, but you're baking a rock."
