Penn College student selected for society’s leadership program

Pennsylvania College of Technology student Kianna A. Rizzo, of Elysburg, is the third consecutive Penn College student to be selected for the American Society of Radiologic Technologists’ Student to Leadership Development Program.

Rizzo is pursuing an associate degree in radiography and a bachelor’s degree in applied health studies. She is a resident assistant and a Phi Theta Kappa international honor society inductee who has consistently been named to the Dean’s List.

Each year, ASRT selects two students from each state for the Student to Leadership Development Program. The three-year program offers students a chance to get to know ASRT, attend educational sessions and network with medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals.

“The American Society of Radiographic Technologists works hand in hand to develop practice standards for the radiography profession, which are used as guidance when drafting licensure laws in the United States,” Rizzo said. “In June, I will get to attend a conference (ASRT’s Educational Symposium & Annual Governance & House of Delegates Meeting) where I will be given the opportunity to meet and work side by side with many influential people in the world of radiography and see what is in store for the governance and legislative side of our profession. This conference will be a learning experience, and I am so excited to be a part of it!”

Rizzo is also excited about her radiography career thus far:

“I love the group of individuals that I get to work with, from the students, to the staff here on campus, as well as the registered radiographic technologists at the hospital (where students complete clinical experiences). Everyone is so nice, and there are so many opportunities for people to grow from here,” she said.

Also part of the Student to Leadership Development Program are Jalen S. Seyler, who completed her radiography degree from Penn College in 2022 and will conclude her three-year involvement in the program on Dec. 31, 2024, and Elisabeth Shaffer, a 2023 Penn College radiography graduate whose term in the program runs through December 2025.
