Penn College leads the way with four regionally ranked wrestlers heading into Saturday’s Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship. Action gets underway at 10 a.m. at Alfred State University.
Other teams competing for honors include Alfred State, Penn State Behrend, Pitt-Bradford and Hiram (Oh.) College.
Wildcats who are ranked in the Jan. 26 National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Individual Mideast Region, include Noah Hunt, who is fourth at 141 pounds; Kaden Ware, who is sixth at 133; TJ Martin, who is seventh at 149; and Travis Green, who is eighth at 165.
Alfred State has three ranked in the Mideast Region: Sean Malenfant, second at 184; Zach Levey, third at 133; and Dom Vinci, seventh at 141.
Penn State Behrend has two ranked in the Southeast Region: Peyton Hearn, first at 149; and Cole Neil, eighth at 133.
In dual meet action thus far, Alfred State is 9-3, Penn State Behrend is 7-5, Penn College is 8-9, Pitt-Bradford is 4-11 and Hiram (Oh.) College is 0-12.
After competing last season in the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference — where Hunt placed fourth — Penn College became an affiliate member of the AMCC last fall after the ECWC was absorbed by the State University of New York (SUNY) Athletic Conference.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our program to compete in this regular season conference championship event,” second-year coach Pankil Chander said. “As I look at the field, I think we’ll have many great opportunities for our wrestlers to compete in an intimate environment that will allow them to showcase their talent while bringing visibility to Penn College in a new conference.
“Luke Heimbach (125), Kaden Ware (133), Noah Hunt (141), TJ Martin (149), Liam Goodrich (157), Travis Green (157), Cavin Napoletano (174), Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni (197) and Nicholai Brotzman (285) highlight our entries. We’ll have a few second-string guys at each weight as well.”
