Rebmann receives award for extraordinary nursing students

Rebmann was among eight students nominated for the award during the Fall 2023 semester. Her nomination was submitted directly by a patient.
“Jen noticed I was struggling mentally when she first met me,” the nominator wrote. “She treated me like we’ve known each other forever. She made sure to remind me that I am not alone.”
Rebmann’s care included changing the patient’s linens and checking in frequently to ensure they were comfortable and had everything they needed.
“Jen showed me that I am more than just a patient. … I believe she deserves to be recognized because she treats her patients like family, and that makes being here that much easier,” the nominator concluded.
Rebmann, who already holds a Penn College degree in health arts: practical nursing, is continuing her education toward an associate degree in nursing, which prepares students to become registered nurses.
The DAISY Awards are a project of The DAISY Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by members of his family. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired the creation of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses to recognize and thank nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
The foundation expanded the awards program to academic institutions in order to recognize the faculty who inspire compassionate care in their students and the students who demonstrate it during their education.
Penn College presents one faculty award and two student awards each year during pre-commencement “pinning” ceremonies for graduating nursing students, held in spring and fall.
Each honoree receives a certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch.”
Award winners can be nominated by peers, colleagues, patients, families or alumni. Winners are selected by a committee in Penn College’s nursing program.
