CAC Volunteer Corps donates in celebration of 30 years

Anytime you’ve been to an event at the Community Arts Center, you've undoubtedly seen a Community Arts Center Volunteer Corps member. They greet you at the door, scan your tickets and help you to your seat on nearly every occasion.

“We absolutely could not operate the CAC without the selfless contribution of time and energy from our volunteers,” said Jim Dougherty, executive director. “Their willingness to help us, week after week, is a critical part of the fabric of the CAC, and we wouldn’t be able to do this without their involvement. We’re incredibly grateful for their dedication.”

Every year, the Community Arts Center Volunteer Corps donates thousands of hours to ensure the arts still have a home in downtown Williamsport. In celebration of the facility's 30-year anniversary, the group decided to give back even more!

Through the Volunteer Executive Committee, the corps made a generous donation of $3,000 to further the mission of the CAC. Brooke Styborski, operations manager and volunteer organizer, ensures that the money will go to good use to assist in buying supplies and necessities that help the volunteers serve the community and patrons that enter the building.

“It’s really amazing to see the dedication and love that the volunteers have for the CAC," she said. "They’re not only passionate about the foundations on which the CAC was built, but they are determined to support its future. We really couldn’t operate without this level of commitment and dedication."

The Volunteer Corps has been a part of the CAC since its founding. This year, six volunteers rounded the 30-year mark when the CAC had its birthday in May. Sue Berta, who loves her “job” greeting guests, says one of her spiritual gifts is to be of service to others. She feels blessed that she has been able to help her community for so many years while also being able to enjoy many wonderful performances along the way.

Another volunteer who has served for 30 years, Sylvia Miller, said people come into the theater excited and leave with smiling faces: “I’m a people person, and I love seeing people happy. Williamsport is lucky to have this beautiful theater.”'

Kathy and Jeff Richards said they volunteer to give back to the community and to see the arts celebrated in their community.

“From the wide-eyed schoolchildren who visit the CAC for the first time to the patrons who are awed at the beauty and excellence of presentations,” they said they have “enjoyed each moment and are looking forward to the future of the CAC.”
