Electronics grad returning to Williamsport with ’80s tribute band
Tuesday, March 14, 2023
A 1985 alumnus of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s immediate predecessor is among the co-founders of The Reagan Years, a 1980s tribute band that will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Community Arts Center.
Andrew “Sy” Seyler impressively utilized his degree – an Associate of Applied Science in electronics technology from Williamsport Area Community College – to establish himself as an expert in his field while simultaneously pursuing his passions in the music industry.
After graduating, his first position led him to Maryland, working in automated manufacturing test development for Hughes Aircraft Systems. His vast career spanned roles in manufacturing test engineering, hardware and software design verification, which ultimately led to management roles in those areas. Later in his career, Seyler became a managing principal and led several cybersecurity teams, testing various cross-domain solutions that supported government projects.

His accomplishments and leadership earned state and federal quality and productivity awards. In 1996, Seyler co-founded The Reagan Years, which performs to sold-out crowds in domestic and international engagements. As the bandleader, drummer, singer and technical coordinator, he grew the group from a hobby to a full-time career and left the engineering field in 2014 after 29 successful years in the industry. Additionally, in 2009, he founded his second small business, Getting the Gig, a band-based entertainment booking agency.
During the pandemic, Seyler once again leveraged his engineering skills as a contractor until the entertainment industry rebounded. And rebound, it did, as the Community Arts Center is again presenting live shows on its magnificent stage in downtown Williamsport.
The Reagan Years performs hits by Bon Jovi, Madonna, Def Leppard, Whitney Houston, Huey Lewis, Joan Jett, Whitesnake, Billy Idol, Journey, INXS, Kenny Loggins, Guns N’ Roses, a-ha, Dead or Alive, Aerosmith, Duran Duran, Van Halen and ZZ Top!
Tickets for the concert start at $25, and can be purchased at the CAC website or by calling the box office at 570-326-2424.
The Arts Center, at 220 W. Fourth St., is owned and operated by Pennsylvania College of Technology, a national leader in applied technology education.
