Random Acts of Kindness Week and Valentine’s Day stirred an abundance of affection across the Pennsylvania College of Technology campus, including outreach to the smallest of Wildcats in the Dunham Children’s Learning Center.
On Tuesday, members of the college’s Beta Epsilon Upsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for students in two-year majors, put together 62 colorful and play-filled goodie bags for the CLC children; the bags were delivered Wednesday morning to the delighted kiddos.
“I thought of doing this project as a way to give back to the little future Wildcats on campus,” said Christine A. Limbert, president of the college’s PTK chapter. “I am constantly seeing them when I’m walking to classes; they are always running around, and it always puts a smile on my face to see them so happy. I wanted to give some kindness to them because they spread joy wherever they go.”
Limbert, of Curwensville, has petitioned to graduate in May with her Bachelor of Science degree in building science & sustainable design. She earned an associate degree in architectural technology in 2021.
“Phi Theta Kappa encourages academic success in the classroom, as well as giving back to the community that cultivates that success,” Limbert added. “There is nothing better than spreading kindness to the future generation of tomorrow makers on our campus and encouraging what could be the start of some child's academic journey. I’m very grateful to the members of Phi Theta Kappa for coming together and supporting this act of kindness and giving back to others.”
The CLC serves the children of students, faculty and staff while their parents work or attend classes. The center cares for children between the ages of 13 months and 5 years (or until the child is enrolled in kindergarten).
Each semester, PTK membership invitations are extended to associate-degree students who have completed at least 12 hours of coursework in which they have a GPA of 3.5 of higher. An annual induction ceremony is held in April.
