Equipment donation to benefit Penn College electrical program
Thursday, January 5, 2023
Pennsylvania College of Technology students seeking degrees related to electrical technology will benefit from the generosity of the world leader in compact, professional electronic test tools.
Fluke Corp. recently donated eight MDA-550 III motor drive analyzers for the college’s Machine Analysis Lab. Nearly 100 students representing five majors – electrical construction, electric power generation technology: diesel emphasis, diesel technology, electrical technology and mechatronics technology – will use the test tools per academic year.
The eight devices are valued at $68,391.
“The motor analyzers will perform monitoring tasks in real time. This means that our students will be able to see a circuit’s actual power values,” explained Art L. Counterman, instructor of electrical technology/occupations. “The analyzers provide a real-world solution to monitoring a machine’s power usage, aiding students’ efforts in identifying and remedying inefficiencies.”
Founded in 1948, Fluke offers test, measurement and monitoring products and software used in electrical design, manufacturing and network troubleshooting, as well as in electrical, industrial, medical and calibration applications.
“Penn College is extremely grateful to Fluke for their partnership and generosity,” said Chris S. Macdonald, corporate relations officer. “The donation of these analyzers provides our students with the hands-on skills utilized by advanced technicians in industry. Fluke’s impactful contribution positions our graduates to excel from day one.”
“Fluke is proud to partner with Pennsylvania College of Technology through our donation of the MDA-550 III for their electrical program,” said Toffee Coleman, head of education partnerships. “Programs like these are vital in training the next generation of industry professionals needed to fill the workforce skills gap.”
Counterman believes the motor analyzers will bond students to Fluke products, benefiting the company in the future.
“By understanding the capabilities of the analyzers through firsthand experience, students will know and respect the Fluke name,” he said. “When they enter industry and are in position to make purchasing decisions, brand recognition and loyalty often determine the ultimate choice.”
