Fourteen students attain pesticide applicator’s certification

Fourteen Pennsylvania College of Technology students recently passed the state Department of Agriculture’s Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification exam.
“This certification will help these students separate themselves from their competition,” said Carl J. Bower Jr., assistant professor of horticulture. “This is one thing that many employers look for in a new hire, and now these students are able to add this to their resume.”
The Penn College students and the categories in which they successfully tested:
Private application (agriculture-related spraying on privately held land): Shane C. Braunstein, Pottstown; Elizabeth R. Bryan, Pleasant Gap; Erin S. Carey, Lewisburg; Madison E. Dipre-Giles, Muncy; Sonia C. Fladd, Linden; Samantha J. Holdren, Coal Township; Marshall J. LaBuda, Fogelsville; and Colton J. Winkelblech, Spring Mills.
Core exam and Category 6 (ornamental and shade trees): William M. Bishop, Williamsport; Carrie M. Reich, Mifflinburg; Han A. Gandarilla-Reyes, East Norriton; Sam G. Jones, Honesdale; and Grace E. Maneval, Montgomery.
Core exam, Category 6 and Category 7 (lawn and turf): Ian A. Folsom, Williamsport.
Gandarilla-Reyes and Winkelblech are residential construction & technology management students; the rest are enrolled in the college’s landscape/plant production technology major.
