Wayne R. Sheppard, assistant professor of construction management, arranged for the visit by Zachary J. Kravitz, '20, an assistant project manager for IMC Construction, and Matthew R. Sarver, '04, a vice president at Gilbane Building Co.
During their presentation in the Davie Jane Gilmour Center, each offered a candid and informative assessment of how his Penn College bachelor's degree enriched his career and prepared him for the challenges that are inevitable when overseeing construction projects (and navigating the personalities involved).
They said the coursework in their Penn College major – a series of interrelated topics that blended seamlessly together – readily lent itself to real-life application. Both also noted the value of internships, not only in honing their job skills, but in fine-tuning such intangibles as effective communication, critical thinking and work-life balance.
