Penn College employee-recruiting video captures Telly Award
Wednesday, May 25, 2022
A video highlighting Pennsylvania College of Technology’s dynamic environment and culture – and serving as a recruitment tool for faculty – has earned bronze recognition in the 43rd annual Telly Awards, a competition honoring excellence in video and television across all screens.
The video “Make a Hands-on Difference: Teach at Penn College” received a bronze Telly in the General-Workplace Culture category.
Shot, edited and produced by Thomas F. Speicher, writer/video producer for the college’s Public Relations & Marketing department, the seven-minute video features testimonials from Penn College faculty and administrators interspersed with action from classrooms and the college’s renowned hands-on labs. It includes footage captured by Christopher J. Leigh, video producer, and Braxton A. Shope, video production assistant. Shope also created animation for the video.
The 2022 Telly Awards received more than 11,000 entries, including an increase in global submissions from Australia and Mexico and across Europe and Asia. Entrants are judged by The Telly Awards Judging Council – an industry body of more than 200 leading experts including advertising agencies, production companies and major television networks, reflective of the multiscreen industry celebrated by the awards. Honorees include top-tier brands and organizations such as ViacomCBS, Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Marketing, Sony Music Entertainment, Microsoft, ESPN and PBS Digital Studios.
Among those prominently featured in the video are Michael J. Reed, vice president for academic affairs and provost (and the college’s new president, effective July 1), and Hillary E. Hofstrom, vice president for people and culture. Both noted the value of the video in helping to spread the word about the positive work environment found at Penn College.
“Congratulations to all who were involved in earning this honor,” Reed said. “This award is not only a reflection of the extraordinary talents within our Public Relations & Marketing department, it is also a testament to our campus culture – a culture of purpose, support and excellence.”
“This video provides prospective employees with a genuine representation of the culture here at Penn College, and is an awesome reflection of how our faculty have the opportunity to make a positive impact on future generations by sharing their industry expertise through student instruction,” Hofstrom added.
Founded in 1979 to honor commercials made for cable and local TV, The Telly Awards competition has continually refreshed its categories to honor the evolving, broad range of work being produced, including branded content, social video and animation.
