On Tuesday in United East action, Penn College swept SUNY Morrisville, 27-3 in five innings and 13-1 in six innings. In the opener, the Wildcats had a 10-run first inning and a 14-run third to salt things away. On offense, Hailey DeBrody, of Cogan Station, went 4 for 4 with three doubles, five RBIs and five runs scored, while Ivvy Morder, of Mechanicsburg, went 3 for 5 with five RBIs and three runs scored, and Kyla Benner, of Bethlehem, went 3 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Benner also improved on the mound after allowing one hit in four innings of work while striking out nine and walking one. In the second game, pitcher Mackenzie Weaver, of Williamsport, tossed a nine strikeout, two-walk, two-hitter. DeBrody went 2 for 4 with four RBIs; Jaylynn Cochran, of Cogan Station, went 3 for 4 with three runs scored; and Morder had two doubles and scored twice.
In home UE games on Friday and Saturday, Penn College pushed its win streak to 11, a modern (since 2014-15) NCAA era school record, with 9-0 and 14-0 Friday wins over Gallaudet University and 2-0 and 7-1 wins on Saturday against Lancaster Bible College.
Wildcat teams in 2017 and 2019 both had 10-game win streaks. The college’s all-time win streak of 13 in a row came in 2014.
In Friday’s first game, Benner was perfect on the mound against Gallaudet with a 10-strikeout, no-hit, no-walk performance. DeBrody, Morder and Jordan Specht, of Frederick, Maryland, each plated two runs. In the second game, Weaver fired a no-hitter, fanning seven and walking one. On offense, Hemstock had three RBIs and Cochran two.
Against Lancaster Bible, Benner allowed two hits and struck out 12 with no walks in Saturday’s first game while improving to 10-3, while Hemstock and Shaffer each had three hits and drove in the lone runs. In the nightcap, Weaver improved to 9-2 with an eight-strikeout, two-walk showing, and Benner paced the offense with two hits.

Baseball
At Gallaudet University on Tuesday, the hot bat of Kolten Smith, of Millville, helped Penn College complete a UE three-game season sweep with an 11-3 win. Smith doubled and tripled, driving in five runs and scoring three. Gabe Reptsik, of Pennsburg, got the mound win in relief.
Hosting Penn State Abington in a three-game UE series on Friday and Saturday, Penn College dropped all three by scores of 14-0, 14-3 and 10-7 to fall to 9-6 in the conference and 15-13 overall. In the first game, the Wildcats were held to three hits and starting pitcher Samuel Zeigler, of Palmyra, suffered his first loss after four wins. In the second game, Abington rallied for 10 runs in the last two innings to break things open. Starting Penn College pitcher Chance Webb, of Hughesville, took the loss. Wrapping up the series on Saturday, Penn College, led by Cameron Dick, of Dillsburg, who went 4 for 5 with three doubles and four RBIs, got its bats going but committed four errors. Ben Bretzman, of Bendersville, started on the mound and took the loss.
Earlier in the week it was announced that Dick, for the second time this season, was named United East Baseball Player of the Week after he helped Penn College to a 4-0 week April 4-10 by batting .555, with three home runs, two doubles, six runs scored and 11 RBI.

Men’s lacrosse
In a nonconference match at Westminster College on Thursday, the Wildcats lost, 13-4, and saw their overall record leveled at 6-6. James Thatcher, of Bala Cynwyd, had one goal and two assists to lead Penn College. Westminster led in shots, 60-23, and in shots on goal, 33-11.
Returning to UE play on Saturday at Wells College, Penn College had a 10-goal first quarter and won, 22-13, to improve to 2-1 in the conference and 7-6 overall. Quinn Caviola, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, scored four goals and had four assists; Guerin San Agustin, of Old Bridge, New Jersey, had three goals and four assists; and Thatcher added three goals and three assists. Penn College led in shots, 59-40, and in shots on goal, 31-26. James Cella, of Cape May, New Jersey, and Chad Szatkowski, of Jackson, New Jersey, combined for 13 saves in goal.

Penn College tennis teams defeated Penn State Berks in UE play on Tuesday, the men winning 5-4 and the women 9-0. Winning for the Penn College men were Tucker Phillippe-Johansson, of Mattituck, New York, at No. 1 singles; Paul Langbein, of Carnegie, at No. 2 singles; Jesse Kight, of Williamsport, at No. 3 singles; and in doubles, Phillippe-Johansson/Langbein at No. 1 and Kight/Tommy Cavanagh, of New Hope, at No. 2.
Tasting victory in singles for the Penn College women were Delaney Bouton, of Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, at No. 1; Mary Kathryn Hillman, of Quakertown, at No. 2; Georgia Macensky, of Wellsboro; Amber Leitzel, of Mifflinburg; Alexis Youse, of Pottstown, at No. 5; and Sostika Rai, of Harrisburg, at No. 6. Doubles winners were Bouton/Hillman at No. 1, Macensky/Leitzel at No. 2 and Youse/Rai at No. 3.
Penn College tennis teams both lost in United East play at Penn State Abington on Saturday, the men by a 7-2 score and the women by a 9-0 score. The Penn College men now are 1-3 in the conference and 6-5 overall, while its women are 1-3, 2-10. Penn College men winning their matches were Phillippe-Johansson at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4, and Phillippe-Johansson/Langbein at No. 1 doubles, 8-4.

Penn College golfers combined for a 332 and finished third in a four-team field at the Wilson College Invitational on Monday. Will Orwig, of Mifflintown, shot a 79 and tied for third to lead the Wildcat individuals. Also for Penn College, Gavin Baer, of Bainbridge, shot an 80 and tied for fifth; Alex Acree, of Brookville, shot an 84 and tied for 12th; Sean McNamara, of Lancaster, shot an 89 and placed 15th; and Nate Williamson, of Lafayette Hill, shot a 102 and tied for 17th. Hood College captured the team title with a 321 and was followed by Catholic University at 323, Penn College and Wilson College at 422. Kaden Kinard, of Catholic University, topped the 23-player field with a 76.
Penn College golfers combined for a 344 and finished fifth in a 10-team field at the Bloomsburg Husky Invitational on Thursday. Orwig led the Wildcats individually with an 83 and tied for 17th. Also for Penn College, Acree shot an 84 and tied for 20th; Baer shot an 88 and finished 27th; McNamara shot an 89 and finished 28th; and Trevor Keaton, of Worcester, shot a 94 and finished 35th. Only the top four scores counted toward the team title. Indiana University of Pennsylvania captured the team title with a 303 and was followed by Penn State Harrisburg at 316, Bloomsburg A at 318, Penn State Abington at 340, Penn College, Penn State Hazleton at 355, Lycoming College at 363, Ursinus A at 366, Ursinus B at 379 and Bloomsburg B at 393. IUP’s Shaun Fedor took medalist honors with a 70 in a field of 47 who finished.
