Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball teams both posted wins during a combined 2-4 week, while the wrestling squad lost in its only outing.
Men’s basketball
At home in a United East game on Tuesday, Penn College got a rare triple-double from Gavin Barrett, of Roselle, New Jersey, in an 86-52 romp over Penn State Berks. Penn College led from start to finish, opening its largest lead of 44 points at 80-36 with 4:57 to play. For the game, Penn College outscored Berks 44-26 in the paint and had 24 points off turnovers to 12 for the Nittany Lions. Since 2014, Penn College holds a 7-6 lead in the series. In becoming the first Wildcat player in the college’s NCAA era – since 2014 – with a triple-double, Barrett finished with 13 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Chris Coyne, of Glen Mills, added 13 points and Will Sulesky, of Huntingdon, 11 points.
Facing Gallaudet University on Friday in a United East game, Penn College lost a nailbiter, 68-65, as the Bison avenged a 25-point December loss to the Wildcats. Gallaudet led by 13 twice in the first half and stayed in control through the middle of the second half before a 3-pointer by James Ross, of Williamsport, forced a tie at 63-all with 3:03 remaining. Penn College led briefly at 64-63, but a layup and three foul shots down the stretch gave the edge to the Bison. Barrett finished with 15 points to lead Penn College. Coyne was tops with eight rebounds.
At United East-unbeaten St. Mary’s College on Saturday, the Penn College lost, 86-53, to drop to 4-13 overall and 4-6 in the conference. The Wildcats built an early 8-2 lead, with four of the points coming on layups by Max Jackowsky, of Garnet Valley, before St. Mary’s responded with a spurt to go ahead 10-9 with 14:31 left in the half. It was nip-and-tuck with several lead changes after that before the Seahawks pulled away over the last 6:49 for a 13-point, 41-28, halftime lead. In the second half, St. Mary’s stretched its margin to 37 at 83-46 with 4:22 remaining before winning by 33. Corey Blackwell, of Hammonton, New Jersey, and Rees Watkins, of Loyalsock Township, each scored nine points to lead the Wildcats.

Kayleigh Miller, of Sayre, and Rachel Teats, of Middleburg, each scored 12 points and Cassi Kuhns, of Loyalsock Township, pulled down 13 rebounds. The Wildcats outscored Berks 52-6 in the paint and scored 29 points off 27 Berks turnovers.
On Friday at Gallaudet University, the Wildcats opened an 11-5 lead after one quarter before being outscored in each of the last three periods of a 50-45 loss. Teats topped Penn College with 18 points and Aubrey Stetts, of Jersey Shore, had seven rebounds. The Wildcats were outscored in the paint, 22-8. Gallaudet led in points off turnovers, 23-11.
At St. Mary’s College on Saturday, playing its second United East game in as many days, Penn College again got off to a great (11-4) first quarter before losing, 53-42, to fall to 4-13 overall and 3-7 in the conference. St. Mary’s opened the second quarter with a 21-4 run and went on to lead by as many as 16 points early in the fourth. The Wildcats closed to within nine before time expired, but could get no closer. St. Mary’s led in points off turnovers, 24-4, and points in the paint, 24-14. Maci Ilgen, of Spring Mills, led the Wildcats with 10 points, while Ilgen and Ja’Quela Dyer, of Dover, Delaware, each had 12 rebounds.

Penn College teams lost in Rocket League, 3-0; League of Legends, 2-0; and Overwatch, 3-1; all dropping to 0-1; while finishing 22 of 30 in iRacing.
NCAA Convention
Alex Cassada, a senior men’s soccer player from Chambersburg, represented the United East as Penn College’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee chairman at the recent NCAA Convention in Indianapolis, and he and his fellow Division III representatives had a hand in legislation decisions that included a historic moment when the NCAA as a whole approved a new constitution.
“Just to represent the conference is a huge honor,” Cassada said. “It was interesting to see firsthand how some of the NCAA operations work.
“It was pretty awesome to see that the student-athlete had a voice among all of the administrators that were there. It gives us the feeling that Division III is moving in the right direction as a collective.”
