The Community Arts Center has been awarded a $2,500 grant from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield to underwrite the Student Summer Stock production of “The SpongeBob Musical.”
Each summer, the Student Summer Stock program offers the region's seventh through 12th grade students an opportunity to participate in production of a Broadway-type musical onstage at the Arts Center's historic Martin Theatre. Working with Penn College, Lycoming College, the CAC and local theater professionals, the young people hone their skills in weeks of rehearsal before opening in late July. Virtual auditions were completed earlier this month and a cast of 37 will begin rehearsals June 1. The ensemble moves onstage in mid-July to complete preparations for the July 29-Aug. 1 performances.
“We talk a lot about intersecting with our community. Student Summer Stock is just about our best intersection," said Chuck Still, the CAC's executive director. "This is art crafted here, using the talents of our community. Thank you, Highmark, for helping us bring these talented young people to our stage.”
