Nursing alumna Stephanie Suzadail, whose airborne delivery of emergency care is featured in the spring issue of Penn College Magazine, recently established two aptly named funds in support of Pennsylvania College of Technology students.
The 2014 graduate, a flight registered nurse for Geisinger Life Flight, established the FLIGHT (Fearless Learning in Good & Hard Times) Commencement Award. It will be given to a BSN student who, at the discretion of the nursing faculty, has overcome the greatest adversity.
The award, fueled by personal traumas that have provided Suzadail with the life-and-death context for her chosen career, will be presented for the first time at Spring 2021 commencement.
She also initiated the SOAR (Students Overcoming and Rising) Fund, and is hoping that others will follow her benevolent lead.
The annual award will be granted to full-time BSN students with need (such as a second degree, hardship, single parenthood, illness, a challenging school/work balance or financial difficulties) to help offset costs of textbooks, uniforms and other supplies.
College Relations has established a crowdfunding page to aid donations to the SOAR Fund.
