Radiography grads achieve 100% registry exam pass rate

Tuesday, March 9, 2021

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Class of 2020 radiography graduates have achieved a 100% pass rate on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Radiography Examination.

The pass rate is calculated as the number of students who pass the exam on the first attempt within six months of graduation. All 26 of the Penn College students who took the exam passed. Nationally, the pass rate is 88% for 2020.

The registry examination is the final step to becoming a registered radiologic technologist. It consists of 200 questions on topics such as patient interactions and management, radiation protection, and radiation physics.

“The Class of 2020 needs to be commended,” said Christine L. Eckenrod, director of the college’s radiography program. “They overcame huge obstacles due to college and clinic restrictions related to COVID-19. They, along with the staff and faculty of our program, gave 200% toward meeting all of their program requirements and preparing for the registry. All of their hard work paid off, and we are very proud of these outcomes.”

To help students prepare for the exam, Penn College’s radiography program implemented Corectec Registry Review, led by the program director, and hosted a two-day registry review seminar by Kettering Review.

Radiographers are an important part of a medical team that diagnoses and treats patients who have a range of diseases and injuries. They capture images of patients’ internal organs, soft tissues and bones using X-ray equipment. They also assist radiologists with a range of procedures, such as fluoroscopic imaging or gastrointestinal exams that require the use of contrast media.

They can additionally specialize in CT, MRI, mammography, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, sonography and more.

Penn College offers an associate degree in radiography, which can be continued to a bachelor’s degree in applied health studies: radiography concentration. The bachelor’s degree courses are available online.

The radiography major is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.
