Graphic designer offers 'how-to' on finding one's own voice

Journals, prompts, motivations, exercises and zines await visitors to the gallery …… where they can have a seat in the inspiring space …… or browse the array of artistic expression.A space for inspiration and contemplation awaits students and employees at The Gallery at Penn College, located on the third floor of the Madigan Library.



The gallery invites the campus community to enjoy the current exhibit, “Second Nature,” and engage in free supplies to explore a journaling practice. Blank journals, pencils and small booklets (zines) offering writing prompts, motivations and how-to exercises are available to visitors. The tools and instructions complement the exhibit dedicated to graphic designer Sarah Patterson’s 100-day journaling and drawing practice.

Although closed to the public at this time, The Gallery at Penn College is open to students and employees on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (The gallery is closed Saturdays and Sundays.)

… including one crafted by the instructor.In the gallery lobby, masks of a non-pandemic type await onlookers …"Second Nature" is on display through April 9 and can also be enjoyed at the gallery website, where images are supplemented by audio and video recordings and viewers can submit questions to the artist.

On display in the gallery lobby are wood masks crafted during Fall 2020 by students enrolled in ART142, a Wood Sculpture class taught by David A. Stabley, instructor of ceramics and wood sculpture.
