‘Humble spirit’ among regional YWCA’s community honorees

Thursday, November 5, 2020

Loni N. Kline, vice president for college relations at Pennsylvania College of Technology, is among the 2020 inductees into the YWCA Northcentral Pennsylvania’s Women of Excellence program.

“This celebration is a proud moment for our community," said Dawn M. Linn, CEO of the regional YWCA. "A chance to honor the women who help to build strong neighborhoods, inspiring each of us to give back and look ahead for better tomorrows.”

Kline's civic-minded focus was instilled in her as a child and has continued ever since, according to her college nominator.

Loni N. Kline"Loni's full resume of educational achievement, professional experiences and community affiliations reveals an abundance of success that speaks volumes," her co-worker wrote. "You will never hear about any of it from her, though.

"She is a genuinely humble spirit. Her care and concern for the dignity of all human beings – and for her inspiring commitment to putting this belief into action – is worthy of recognition."

During college, Kline mentored teenage girls through an after-school program in Lewistown. In her Snyder County hometown, she contributed to the development plans for a new community center, where she also taught pilates as a volunteer fitness trainer. She currently volunteers as a softball pitching coach for young athletes.

And now, since beginning her employment at Penn College, she is making an impact in Lycoming County.

She is a member of the Autism Society, a network focused on awareness, support and education. And she continues to fund an initiative she and her husband, Doug, established at her alma mater for the distinct purpose of educating faculty on how to better support and teach students on the spectrum.

At Hope Enterprises Inc., she serves as a board member and active committee member, creating a culture of acceptance and inclusion for individuals with autism and other disabilities.

"When looking for a way to make an impact in the Williamsport community, Loni didn't have to look far to find an organization that aligned with her values and passion," her nominator said. "Loni naturally connected with Hope's vision to recast 'disabilities' as 'Hopeabilities.'"

Kline joined the Penn College family in 2017 after three years as associate vice president for development and donor relations at Lycoming College. Previously, she was director of the annual fund at Bucknell University, associate director of development at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, director of major gifts in an earlier Lycoming appointment and director of annual giving at Juniata College.

She holds a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Phoenix, and a bachelor’s degree in communications and health promotion from Juniata College.

She is the 14th Penn College employee to be selected in the dozen years of the local YWCA’s Women of Excellence program. The event, focused this fall on 13 community leaders and seven young women from county high schools, celebrates the honorees’ strength, integrity, leadership and dedication to Lycoming County.

This year's inductees gathered for an informal private reception on Nov. 1 and were recognized virtually (with a catered meal, especially delivered to each honoree's home by Mel’s Deli & Cafe in Montoursville) on Nov. 5.
