NEAC honors spring sports seniors

Sunday, May 10, 2020

Over the past several weeks, the North Eastern Athletic Conference has paid tribute to student-athletes on spring sports teams whose final seasons were prematurely ended by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pennsylvania College of Technology honorees are:

Baseball – Colton Riley, of Danville; Clark Jackson, of Columbia Cross Roads.

Softball – Danielle Bonis, of Norwalk, Connecticut; Morgan Heritage, of New Castle, Delaware; Lexi Heritage, of New Castle, Delaware.

Golf – Austin Moscariello, of New Columbia; Jordan Wise, of McClure.

Men’s tennis – Luke Whitenight, of Berwick; Blake Whitmire, of Shickshinny.

The women’s tennis team has no players in their last year. Those whose careers are over on the Penn College archery squad are Hunter Thomas, of Elizabethtown, and Bret Yetter, of Liverpool, although archery is not a NEAC-sponsored sport.

NCAA, NEAC open dialogue on mental health awareness
This past week, the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held its inaugural 2020 Mental Health Social Media Campaign, a platform for student-athletes, administrators, coaches, staff and support networks across the country to start the discussion, speak out on and break the stigma surrounding mental health.

The goal of the campaign was to use social media to create a dialogue on mental health and to communicate the benefits of normalizing mental health awareness.

As part of the campaign, five Penn College students sent in videos pledging their support of the #BreakTheStigma public service announcement. They are women’s soccer players Sloane Tressler, of Mill Hall, and Ashley Donat, of Lenhartsville; men’s soccer player Alex Cassada, of Chambersburg; men’s basketball player Jesse White, of Harrisburg; and softball player Gillian Sinnott, of Sykesville, Maryland.
