CAC awarded $250,000 grant for roof replacement

Thursday, February 13, 2020

The Community Arts Center has received a $250,000 grant from the Williamsport Lycoming Community Fund of the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania.

The grant is a response to the CAC administration's request for funds to help replace the building's roof. In July, strong winds rolled back the roof membrane on the historic building and rainwater found its way to the basement, drenching offices and stage alike. A contract for the new roof has not yet been awarded, but the FCFP grant is expected to cover the majority of the final cost.

Tammy Avery Weber, chair of the FCFPA Board of Directors, with CAC Executive Director Chuck Still.FCFPA grant recipient"The life of any historic building is precarious, even one that was renovated 28 years ago. With this grant, we are reminded just how important the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania is to the life of this city and more specifically to the Community Arts Center," said Chuck Still, the CAC's new executive director. "FCFP was with us at the beginning of the renovation in 1993 and has proven to be a steadfast partner through the years. Once again, they have come to our aid in a time of very present trouble."

The Community Arts Center, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pennsylvania College of Technology, is based in the historic Capitol Theatre, which was renovated and reopened in May 1993.
