On the back of successful tours in 2015, 2016 and 2018, "Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story," the show that inspired a generation of phenomenally popular jukebox musicals that includes "Jersey Boys" and Mamma Mia," is coming to the Community Arts Center at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23. Seen by more than 22 million music fans since it opened in London’s West End in 1989, "Buddy" tells the enduring tale of the musical icon’s meteoric rise to fame and his final legendary performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, before his tragic and untimely death at the age of 22. In 18 short months, the Texas native revolutionized the face of contemporary music and ultimately influenced everyone from The Beatles to Bruce Springsteen. The show's multi-talented cast will present two hours of music with over 20 of Holly's hits, including the timeless classics "That'll Be the Day" and "Peggy Sue." With the Big Bopper’s "Chantilly Lace" and Ritchie Valens’ "La Bamba" completing a stellar musical lineup, "Buddy" is a not-to-be-missed afternoon of feel-good family entertainment. It is one of the top performing arts venues on the East Coast. Since its reopening in 1993, approximately 1.5 million guests have enjoyed over 1,000 productions.
