Campus addition to 'Bases Loaded' lineup to be unveiled Friday

Monday, August 12, 2019

The latest "Bases Loaded" sculpture, a left fielder to be installed near Penn College's main entrance, will be unveiled in a public ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday.

"Bases Loaded" is a privately funded project featuring individual statues commemorating the history of Little League. The bronze sculpture at Penn College – at the northeast corner of the turning circle and fountains off Maynard Street – is the last of nine position players. Other locations are Market Square, the Trade & Transit Centre II Plaza, the Original Little League complex, BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field, and the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center campus. The project was launched in 2014 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Little League Baseball and will culminate in 2021 with the 75th anniversary of the Little League Baseball World Series.

The speakers for Friday's ceremony will include Jason Fink, president and CEO of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce; Amy J. Brooks, of Susquehanna Trailways, who chairs the Chamber's Visitors Bureau Operating Committee; and Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour.
