Wide range of artistic adventures in gallery’s 2019-20 season

Graffiti photography, industrial sculpture, multimedia folklore and vintage comics are among the engaging lineup of artistic adventures offered by The Gallery at Penn College’s 2019-20 season. The gallery’s 14th season will also shine the spotlight on fiber artists, as well as on graduating seniors in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s graphic design and architecture and sustainable design majors.



The Gallery at Penn CollegeThe season begins with exhibits by two Pennsylvania artists: Michael Hower’s “Graffiti Scapes,” showcasing digital photography, Aug. 16 through Oct. 6; and Jeff Repko’s “In Proximity,” presenting industrial sculptures and paintings, Oct. 23 to Dec. 11.

Missouri multimedia artist Sarah Nguyen’s “Gathering the Names,” a contemporary exploration of folklore, runs Jan. 14 to Feb. 18. “Victory for a Dime,” an exhibition of World War II action comic books, is set for March 17 through April 17.

The annual exhibitions of Penn College students’ design portfolios are next with “Graphic Design 2020,” April 28 to May 8, and “Architecture & Sustainable Design,” May 14 to 21. Closing out the gallery’s season will be “Textiles in Transition,” a collection of fiber-based artwork by Pennsylvania regional members of Studio Art Quilt Associates, June 4 through July 23.

Throughout the season, individual artists will present talks during gallery receptions, with some of the exhibitions offering additional exploration through lectures, demonstrations, workshops or artist-in-residence experiences.

The Gallery at Penn College is on the third floor of the Madigan Library. In addition to serving as an educational resource for Penn College students and a cultural asset to the college and community, the gallery is dedicated to promoting art appreciation through exhibitions of contemporary art. Admission to the gallery is free.
