"Secret Garden," a quilt by Dorothy J. Gerring, associate professor of architecture and sustainability, has been accepted into "3D Expression," the Studio Art Quilters Association's global exhibition of textile art on tour from September through mid-2021. "Secret Garden" is scheduled to debut in the SAQA show at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Sept. 23. The piece – measuring 16 inches by 16 inches by 24 inches – features a sloping hillside with a brook and a tree. The tree’s leaves are yo-yos and there is a swing hanging from the branches; butterflies and bunnies populate the scene. Gerring is one of 42 artists from 14 U.S. states and 10 countries included in the exhibit, which will be in Michigan until Nov. 3, with later engagements at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, in St. Bonaventure, New York, and the Ross Museum of Art in Delaware, Ohio.
