Pennsylvania College of Technology engineering design students, as well as students from several other majors, distinguished themselves by passing prominent industry certification exams related to computer-aided design during the 2018-19 academic year.
Most of the students became certified SolidWorks associates, while two students added certifications for AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, respectively.
“Encouraging students to obtain CAD certifications is a standard practice within our department,” said Katherine A. Walker, assistant professor of engineering design technology. “Their performance on the exams validates their skill sets, reflects their hard work in class and reveals their dedication to their future profession. The certifications help them stand out in the job market upon graduation.”
The exams require candidates to meet several hands-on challenges, representing various aspects of the software. SolidWorks, AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor are three of several 3D modeling software applications employed by Penn College students seeking a bachelor’s degree in engineering design technology or industrial design or an associate degree in engineering CAD technology.
Engineering design technology students Morgan R. Bagenstose, of Reading, and Daniel T. Wright, of McClure, earned certifications in addition to passing the Certified SolidWorks Associate exam. Wright obtained AutoCAD User Certification, and Bagenstose secured Autodesk Inventor User Certification.
Other engineering design technology students who passed the Certified SolidWorks Associate exam are: Kyle P. Amon, Lafayette Hill; Caleb J. Barackman, Weedville; Dennis M. Barton III, Irwin; Ben M. Bienert, Bellefonte; Jahmel Blunt, Scranton; Stephen C. Brodecki, Media; Logan L. Buck, Williamsport; Jacob E. Carles, Bernville; Josh Croson, Seven Valleys; Caleb M. Ely, Springville; Ethan E. Fravel, Lock Haven; Dylan C. Godinez, Reading; Rowan W. Goeckler, Frenchtown, New Jersey; Aidan K. Healy, Shinglehouse; Justin B. Jay, Milanville; Austin Lamoreaux, Sayre; Matt R. Maczuga, Berwick; Wesley S. McCray, Corry; Evan L. McElhenny, Bainbridge; Kevin J. McFarland, Coatesville; Kurtis N. Monahan, Sunbury; Michael R. Naugler, Sykesville, Maryland; Wesley C. Price, Dallas; Jack P. Ralston, Bloomsburg; Brandon T. Reeves, Harleysville; Kyle A. Shilling, Milroy; Jeremy P. Suszczynski, Wayne, New Jersey; Brandon Z. Williams, Pittston; Zach M. Williamson, Mill Hall; and Benson P. Weaver, Lititz.
Engineering CAD technology students who earned the certification are: Sidney S. Alpaugh V, Muncy; Grace N. Daubert, Pine Grove; Matheu A. Davenport, Lewisburg; David E. Ferg, New Milford; Jordan J. Garinger, Sunbury; Isiah S. Gingrich, Felton; Corey J. Mason, Lake City; Cheyenne A. Miller, Bellefonte; Calum A. Nichols, Coudersport; and Dan J. Schaefer, Williamsport.
Industrial design students who passed the exam are: Christopher T. Burke, Branchville, New Jersey; Charles Starr, Jenkintown; and Aidan J. Turner, Fogelsville.
Three students seeking a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering technology also earned certification: Mason E. Aber, Bellefonte; Tyler M. Arthur, Fleetwood; and Jaron A. Williams, Lopez.
Rachel E. Garrett, a Penn College NOW student who attends Jersey Shore High School, obtained her certification, as well. Penn College NOW is the institution’s nationally accredited dual-enrollment program, allowing high school students to earn college credit for free.
