Kaitlyn L. Andersen, a nursing major from Mastic, New York, has been chosen as the “Student of the Month” at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Andersen is a two-year member of the Student Nurses’ Association, currently serving as the organization’s vice president.
“She is a hard worker and earns good grades,” her faculty/staff nominator said. “Kaitlyn exemplifies what a Penn College student should be.”
Among her accomplishments, Andersen is an inductee to the college’s Bachelor of Science Nursing Honor Society, is a two-year member of the Nursing Student Advisory Board and has been a nursing tutor for the 2018-19 academic year.
She is among the organizers of a resurgent campus Relay for Life effort on behalf of the American Cancer Society; helped plan the annual Nursing Gala; and facilitated the collection of hygiene, educational and other items to distribute on a visit to Central America.
“This past semester, she went on a study-abroad trip to Guatemala and provided medical services for families who cannot afford medical care,” her nominator noted. “Katilyn has been a great asset to the Penn College community!”
Outside the School of Nursing & Health Sciences, Andersen has been a member of the Wildcat women’s cross-country team, has served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and is a graduate of the Student Leadership Boot Camp. She was recently inducted into the college’s Awesome Women Exemplars, an annual recognition that coincides with National Women’s History Month each March.
Student of the Month honors are bestowed by the Student Government Association numerous times each academic year based on nominees’ commitment, service, role-model behavior, academics, leadership and campus involvement.
