Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis teams got their North Eastern Athletic Conference seasons underway over the weekend. On Monday, the college’s golf team is scheduled to begin its season in the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen Spring Invitational at Lebanon Country Club.
Baseball
In nonconference play on Wednesday at Penn State Harrisburg, a team that will be in the NEAC next season, Penn College committed six errors and fell, 13-9. Alex Flicker, of Topton, ended the game with three hits, including two doubles, and five runs batted in for the Wildcats while Colton Riley, of Danville, had three hits and scored twice and Brittan Kittle, of Millville, had two hits, including a home run, and scored four times. Starting pitcher Nathan Holt, of Shippensburg, went two innings and took the loss.
Penn College made a statement in its NEAC opener on Saturday against Lancaster Bible College as five players hit six home runs in a combined 23-hit attack that saw it win by scores of 6-4 and 17-3. A four-run second inning – highlighted by homers from Rylan Whitmyer, of Williamsport; a two-run shot by Alex Zelger, of Red Lion; and a solo belt by Jacob Carles, of Bernville – set the tone in the first game. Starting pitcher Holt went the seven-inning distance, walking two and striking out 10, to even his record at 2-2. In the second game, Carles hit his second home run while Kittle and Flicker also went yard. Carles and Flicker each went 3 for 4 hitting with five RBIs while Kittle was 4 for 6 with two RBIs. Starting pitcher Devon Sanders, of Bloomsburg, fanned seven in eight innings of work and didn’t allow a walk while earning his first win against three losses.
Wrapping up its weekend three-game NEAC series against Lancaster Bible on Sunday, the Wildcats won, 12-7, to go to 3-0 in the conference and 5-9 overall. Colton Riley, of Danville, got into the home run action and ended the day with two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Also standing out on offense for Penn College were Kittle with three hits (including the 100th of his career), two RBIs and three runs scored, Flicker with two hits and two RBIs and Carles with two hits and three runs scored. Starting pitcher Cody Nelson, of South Williamsport, went six innings, fanned seven and improved to 2-1.

Softball
Hosting defending conference champion Penn State Berks in their NEAC opener on Saturday, the Wildcats were blanked twice, by scores of 8-0 in six innings and 2-0, as their six-game win streak was snapped. The Wildcats now are 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference. In the first game, Penn College was limited to two hits. Starting Wildcats’ pitcher Kyla Benner, of Bethlehem, suffered her first loss of the year after two wins. In the second game, Penn College was held to four hits and committed three errors as pitcher Morgan Heritage, of New Castle, Delaware, saw her record go to 3-3 on the season.
A week ago in nonconference play against Keystone College, Liz Asher, of East Stroudsburg, picked up her 100th career hit as a Wildcat.

Winning both their singles and doubles matches for the Wildcats were Tucker Phillippe-Johansson, of Mattituck, New York, at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, and Will DeMarco, of Glen Mills, at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.
In conference play on Saturday at Penn State Berks, the Wildcats won, 6-3, to even their NEAC record at 1-1 and go to 3-3 overall. Winning in both singles and doubles were Phillippe-Johansson at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles and DeMarco at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.
