Penn College Student Affairs again honored nationally

Tuesday, March 5, 2019

For the third time, Student Affairs at Pennsylvania College of Technology has been nationally recognized for its focus on a diverse and inclusive employment environment.

Penn College’s selection as one of 20 institutions named the 2019 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs was announced by the American College Personnel Association and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine. Penn College was also among the honorees in 2015 and 2018.

“We are honored to be recognized for a third time as a Most Promising Place to Work in Student Affairs,” said Elliott Strickland, vice president for student affairs. “The support we receive at Penn College, as we work for the benefit of our students, is incredible. It allows us to build a dynamic team that works tirelessly for the success of our students. We are so thankful for this national recognition of the work we do at Penn College.”

The department’s umbrella comprehensively covers areas of student life at Penn College: social and educational activities, health services, housing, dining services, counseling, career development, disability services, athletics, security, a campus bookstore, diversity and cultural life, and campus and community engagement.

Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs is part of a collaboration between ACPA and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. With a focus on workplace diversity, staffing practices and work environment, the research uses a web-based survey approach to examine such categories as family friendliness, salary/benefits and professional development opportunities.

Other institutions on the list (in alphabetical order) are Bowling Green State University, Brevard College, California State Polytechnic University-San Luis Obispo, California State University-Channel Islands, College of William & Mary, James Madison University, Rhode Island College, Rutgers University-New Brunswick, Saint Louis University, Samuel Merritt University, Sonoma State University, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, The Ohio State University-Columbus, University of Hawaii-Hilo, University of Maryland-Baltimore, University of Vermont, University of West Georgia, Virginia Tech and West Chester University.

The findings will be published in the March 7 issue of Diverse magazine, and formal recognition is taking place at the ACPA’s annual meeting in Boston from March 3-6.
