Former "American Idol" finalist Aaron Kelly lent his time and talent to Penn College students in the Commercial Photography class. The country/pop artist, who grew up in nearby Sonestown, spent five hours on Friday in the graphic design photo studio on the second floor of the Bush Campus Center. Each student in graphic design instructor Mark W. Wilson’s class enjoyed the opportunity to go behind the camera, directing Kelly in various poses. Kelly’s music played loudly in the classroom to set a relaxed tone for the photography session. “I’m excited to work with Penn College and its students,” Kelly said. “It’s great to be an artist myself and to work with these young artists who are just starting out in their careers. We all get to create together!” Kelly will use some of the images for his marketing promotions. His manager, Connie Barger, is a sister to Sue K. Manzitti, supervisor of support services for Workforce Development. Barger arranged Kelly’s photo session with Brian A. Flynn, assistant professor and department head of art and design. “I thought it would be great for the class to work with someone who has been involved in professional photo shoots,” Flynn said. Kelly came prepared with several outfit changes and a few props, including a classic microphone. The artist divides his time between central Pennsylvania and Nashville, Tennessee, performing at various venues and events. Kelly also devotes time to numerous charitable causes with the mission of “Changing Lives One Song at a Time.”
