Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestlers had a final tuneup over the weekend in preparation for the postseason while the college’s basketball teams look to bring down the curtain on their campaigns this week.
Wrestling
Closing out their last weekend of the regular season at SUNY Brockport on Saturday and the Rochester Institute of Technology Tiger Duals on Sunday, the Wildcats went 1-3 to end 12-16 overall. The 12 wins are the college’s most in a season in its NCAA era that began in 2014-15. Previous highs came in 2012-13, when the Wildcats were 13-8, and 1979-80, when they were 12-1.
Against Brockport, decision wins by Dylan Otis, of Wyalusing, at 285; Dylan Gettys, of Etters, at 174; and Dan Bergeron, of Jackson, New Jersey, at 165, accounted for all of Penn College’s points in a 37-9 loss.
On Sunday, Penn College lost to SUNY Oneonta, 42-11, and RIT, 38-9, before beating Alfred State College, 50-6. Jared Mooney, of Palmerton, ended the day 2-0 at 197, while Otis at 285, Gettys at 174 and 184 and Bergeron at 165 all were 2-1.
Next up is the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional at Lycoming College on Feb. 22-23.
Men's basketball
At Morrisville State College on Saturday, Penn College lost, 103-82, in North Eastern Athletic Conference action. Carson Garvis, of Taneytown, Maryland, topped the Wildcats with 29 points while Spencer Bartron, of Camden, Delaware, chipped in with 19 points. Morrisville outscored Penn College in the paint, 66-28.
After trailing by as many as 12 points in the first half, the Wildcats battled back for a 93-91 win at Cazenovia College on Sunday to snap an eight-game loss streak and go to 3-20 overall and 2-12 in the conference. Elijah Vazquez led five Penn College players scoring in double figures with 28 points and he also led the team with 12 rebounds. Also for the Wildcats, Trey McCullough, of Stuart, Florida, scored 16; Garvis and Bartron each tallied 15 and Anthony Deitrick, of Troy, scored 11. Connecting on just 47 percent of its field goals — and 39 percent of its 3-point shots — one day earlier in a loss against Morrisville State, Penn College hit 61 percent of its field goals — and 53 percent of its 3-point shots — in the win.

Kaylah Brown, of Suffolk, Virginia, and Ariana Burke, of Chambersburg, each scored 11 points for the Wildcats and Ja’Quela Dyer, of Dover, Delaware, chipped in with 10 points. Morrisville outscored Penn College in the paint, 34-20.
At Cazenovia College on Sunday, the Wildcats lost, 90-81, to drop to 1-22 overall and 0-14 in the conference. Brown broke out with a season-high 26-point performance for Penn College and Dyer recorded a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Madison Klock, of Elysburg, added 14 points and Tori Wolfe, of Dalmatia, 11 points and nine rebounds.
