Penn College women cagers snap 19-game loss string

The Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team went 1-1 in nonconference action over the weekend in its final games of 2018.

Strong down the stretch: On Saturday at Bryn Mawr College, the Wildcats got their first win of the campaign – 64-62 – and snapped a two-season, 19-game loss streak that extended back to Jan. 14. Trailing 59-56 with 2:49 remaining in the contest, Penn College outscored the home team 8-3 the rest of the way for its win. Madison Klock, of Elysburg, led Penn College with 21 points; Kaylah Brown, of Suffolk, Virginia, tallied 16 points; Cassie Kuhns, of Loyalsock Township, scored 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds; and Maci Ilgen, of Spring Mills, added 10 points.

At Keystone College on Sunday, Penn College lost, 66-57, to drop to 1-9 on the season. Gwendolyn Lavelle, of Pocono Summit, led the Wildcats with 13 points and Kuhns scored 12. Klock and Ilgen each had eight rebounds. Keystone led by as many as 23 points in the first half before Penn College battled back to within six with a 9-2 start in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats are idle until Jan. 3, when they travel to Misericordia University.
