Four Penn College teams victorious

Over the past week, four Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports teams posted wins, with the women’s volleyball team tasting victory for the first time this season.

Penn College golfers took five of the top 11 individual spots and the Wildcats placed first among six teams in the Williamsport Country Club Collegiate on Monday. Leading Penn College and tying for third place after shooting 78s were Ned Baumbach, of Elizabethtown; Tyler Haynes, of Hummelstown; Austin Moscariello, of New Columbia; and Brian Whelan, of Cresco. Also for the Wildcats, Tyler Marks, of Beachwood, New Jersey, tied for 10th with an 82. Haynes played on Penn College’s “B” team, which tied for fourth. Jimmy Gillespie, of Penn State Altoona, medaled with a 75 in a field of 32.

Women's soccer
At home on Saturday with SUNY Cobleskill, the Wildcats dominated in a 5-0 win. Kaelan Cronan, of Leesport, scored twice for Penn College, which led in shots, 21-5 (7-2 on goal), and in corner kicks, 6-1.

Penn College completed a home weekend sweep on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over SUNY Poly that boosted its overall record to 7-1 and improved its conference mark to 5-0. Erica Gallagher, of Wyoming, scored once and assisted on another goal while Cronan punched in her 11th goal of the season. The Wildcats led in shots, 24-7 (10-3 on goal), and in corner kicks, 9-1. Goalkeeper Taylor Gonzales, of Lititz, recorded the shutout.

This week, Penn College steps out of the conference on Wednesday when it travels to Selinsgrove and a clash with Susquehanna University, then it returns home for a key NEAC match at 1 p.m. Saturday against Cazenovia College.

In North Eastern Athletic Conference action this week: Host Cazenovia College (9-2 overall, 5-1 NEAC through Sunday), 1 p.m. Saturday.

Men's soccer
Hosting SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Penn College gave up four first-half goals and lost, 5-0. Cobleskill led in shots, 11-7 (8-0 on goal). The Wildcats led in corner kicks, 6-5.

On Sunday at home with SUNY Poly, the Wildcats earned a weekend split with a 2-0 win on a pair of goals by Colton Wartman, of Ellicott City, Maryland, that upped their overall record to 3-5 and improved their NEAC record to 3-2. Goalkeeper Hunter Gosnell, of Westminster, Maryland, earned the shutout. Poly led in shots, 8-7, but Penn College led in shots on goal, 5-3, and corner kicks, 4-3.

Women's volleyball
In a nonconference triangular on Thursday at Marywood University, Penn College lost to Misericordia University, L, 0-3 (7-25, 18-25, 16-25); and the home team, 0-3 (12-25, 15-25, 15-25). Against Misericordia, Hannah Burnett, of Middlebury Center, had 13 assists and Michayla Roberts, of Newville, 14 digs. Burnett added six assists and Roberts seven digs against Marywood.

On Saturday in a home triangular, the Wildcats dropped their first match against NEAC foe College of St. Elizabeth, 2-3 (25-23, 21-25, 8-25, 25-18, 10-15), before snapping their season-opening 12-match loss streak with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20) nonconference win over Cheyney University. Against St. Elizabeth, Roberts had 31 digs and Burnett had 22 assists. Against Cheyney, Roberts had 26 digs and Burnett 16 assists as Penn College went to 1-12 overall and now is 0-5 in the conference.

Men's/women's cross-country
Competing on Saturday in the 40th annual Mike Woods Invitational at SUNY Geneseo, the Penn College men placed 16th in a 23-team field and the Penn College women 17th among 19 teams. Josh Velez, of Lewistown, topped the Penn College men as he finished 57th among 308 runners over the 8K course in 27:29.2. Leading the Penn College women over a 6K course was Sidney Trunzo, of Williamsport, who ended 95th among 232 runners in 25:31.2.

Wrestling
