Penn College Women Stay Unbeaten in Soccer

Six of eight Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports teams saw action last week including the women’s soccer team, which stayed unbeaten, and the men’s soccer squad, which earned its first win of the season.

Women's Soccer
For the second straight year, Penn College took honors when it played crosstown rival Lycoming College in the ninth annual Battle for the Lumber with a 2-1 nonconference win on Wednesday. Lycoming leads the series 5-3-1. The Wildcats built a 2-0 lead on goals from Dominique Brown, of Benton, and Megan Bugbee, of Geneseo, New York. Lycoming led in shots, 19-12 (7-6 on goal), and corner kicks, 7-3. Penn College goal keeper Taylor Gonzales, of Lititz, had six saves on the day.

On Saturday at Gallaudet University, Tiffany Brown, of Mechanicsburg, scored twice and assisted on another goal as Penn College posted a 6-0 shutout and improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the NEAC. Erica Gallagher, of Wyoming, ended the day with two assists and Gonzales was perfect in goal. The Wildcats led in shots, 22-9 (12-4 on goal), and in corner kicks, 12-5.

In North Eastern Athletic Conference action this week: Host College of St. Elizabeth (2-2 overall, 0-2 NEAC through Sunday), 1 p.m. Saturday.

Last meeting vs. St. Elizabeth: Won 9-0 on Oct. 22.

Men's Soccer
At Gallaudet University on Saturday, Penn College won, 2-1 in double overtime, to go to 1-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Colton Wartman, of Ellicott City, Maryland, knocked in the game-winner at the 1:07:58 mark. Gallaudet scored early and then got the Wildcats back in the match with an own goal. Penn College led in shots, 13-12 (5-4 on goal), and Gallaudet led in corner kicks, 6-5.

Wrapping up their week on Sunday at crosstown rival Lycoming College, the Wildcats lost, 6-0, to fall to 1-4 overall. Lycoming led in shots, 25-8 (12-6 on goal), and in corner kicks, 12-3.

In North Eastern Athletic Conference action this week: Host College of St. Elizabeth (2-4 overall, 0-2 NEAC through Sunday), 3 p.m. Saturday.

Last meeting vs. St. Elizabeth: Won 8-0 on Oct. 22.

Golf
In their season opener on Wednesday in the Keuka College Invitational at Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan, New York, the Wildcats finished fourth in an 11-team field with a 323, four strokes off the pace of winning SUNY Canton. Tyler Marks, of Beachwood, New Jersey, led Penn College with a 78 and tied for sixth among 60 golfers.

Men's Cross-Country
At the Lancaster Bible College Charger Invitational on Saturday, Penn College ended third in a 15-team field. Josh Velez, of Lewistown, placed fifth among 134 individuals and led the Wildcats with a time of 27:59.3 over an 8K course.

Women's Cross-Country
Sidney Trunzo, of Williamsport, ended third in a field of 97 while leading Penn College to a third-place finish in a field of 13 teams Saturday at the Lancaster Bible College Charger Invitational. Trunzo covered the 6K course in 26:50.5.

Women's Volleyball
In its NEAC opener on Tuesday at Penn State Berks, Penn College lost, 0-3 (19-25, 9-25, 13-25).

Hosting a triangular on Saturday, Penn College lost to Lancaster Bible College, 0-3 (9-25, 14-25, 16-25), in a NEAC match and to Alfred State College, 0-3 (9-25, 19-25, 17-25), in nonconference play to drop to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the NEAC.

In North Eastern Athletic Conference action this week: Vs. Morrisville State College (7-3 overall, 0-0 NEAC through Sunday) at Cazenovia College, 2 p.m. Saturday; at Cazenovia College (0-7 overall, 0-0 NEAC through Sunday), 4 p.m. Saturday.
