Practical Nursing Information Session to Be Held in Potter County
Tuesday, August 14, 2018
Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Outreach Practical Nursing Program, based in the Wellsboro Area School District, will host a free information session for those interested in nursing as a career.
The session will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in the Potter County Education Council building, 5 Water St., Coudersport. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.
Julie Mansfield, coordinator of the program, will discuss admission requirements; application, tuition and financial aid processes; licensure; and the job outlook for graduates. Excellent career opportunities for licensed practical nurses exist in area hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, personal-care facilities and human-service organizations.
All applicants must complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills prior to receiving an application for the program. Completed applications and pre-entrance requirements must be submitted by Dec. 15 to be considered for admission. The next practical nursing class is scheduled to begin Feb. 4; graduation will be Jan. 30, 2020.
Classes for the 12-month, full-time practical nursing program will be held at the Potter County Education Council building with clinical experiences at UPMC Cole, Sweden Valley Manor and other area facilities. (The didactic lectures will be conveniently streamed to the Potter County site, and a modified clinical schedule has been established locally, so students can join the Wellsboro cohort without traveling to Tioga County.)
The practical nursing program is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Those who successfully complete the program will earn a certificate in practical nursing and be prepared to take the National Council Licensure Exam for licensure as an LPN. Educational opportunities for advancement to registered nurse are available.
This is a clock-hour program, eligible for Pell grants and Stafford loans, designed specifically by Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College in Williamsport. Costs for 2018 are $17,000, including textbooks.
To register, contact the Potter Education Council at 814-274-4877.
