The Society of Plastics Engineers Thermoforming Division has honored a Pennsylvania College of Technology student with a national scholarship.
Haven K. Bontz, of Cooperstown, Venango County, is the recipient of the Bill Benjamin Memorial Scholarship. Bontz is a junior seeking a bachelor’s degree in plastics and polymer engineering technology.
“Haven has demonstrated his passion for our industry through his ongoing internship and other activities,” said Matt O’Hagan, chair of the SPE Thermoforming Division Student Activities Committee. “Supporting the next generation of thermoforming industry professionals is of paramount importance to the SPE Thermoforming Division.”
For the past year, Bontz has interned with Consolidated Container Company in Oil City, where he has helped implement 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize and sustain) workplace organizational plans and performed process validations.
The $1,000 scholarship includes an invitation for Bontz to attend the 26th SPE Thermoforming Conference, scheduled for September in Fort Worth, Texas. He will be recognized during the Thermoforming Awards Dinner.
“We are very happy that Haven’s commitment to his plastics career path has been honored with the Bill Benjamin Memorial Scholarship,” said David R. Cotner, dean of industrial, computing and engineering technologies. “This is the second time in three years that a Penn College student has earned the scholarship, which is a tribute to our plastics program.”
Penn College is one of six institutions nationwide offering plastics degrees that are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.
