Public Relations and Marketing at Pennsylvania College of Technology was honored recently for two of its marketing efforts.
The college received Honorable Mention in two categories in the 11th Annual CUPPIE Awards for Creative Excellence in Marketing and Communications in Education. The competition is sponsored by CUPRAP (College and University Public Relations and Associated Professionals).
In the “Advertising – Outdoor, In-House” category, the college was honored for its “Dreams Welcome” themed billboard, which features female welder Stephanie M. Puckly, of Spartansburg, who received a bachelor’s degree in welding and fabrication engineering technology in May 2017. It was placed opposite the Little League Baseball complex in South Williamsport during the 2017 Little League World Series to convey to families that you can pursue your passions at Penn College regardless of stereotypes.
A second honor was received in the category of “Advertising – TV, In-House” for a 30-second television commercial titled “What Does It Take to Succeed?” On-camera narration is provided by Rachel A. Fabie, a dental hygiene student from Stewartstown. The spot capped a three-commercial series aimed at challenging and inspiring students to become tomorrow’s workplace leaders through a Penn College education. The commercial, and more than 320 other Penn College videos, can be viewed on the college’s YouTube channel.
PRM staff involved with producing the billboard include Carlos Ramos, director of strategic marketing; Sarah K. Patterson, graphic designer/project coordinator; Cindy D. Meixel, writer/photo editor; and Larry D. Kauffman, digital publishing specialist/photographer.
Staff producing the TV commercial were Thomas F. Speicher, writer/video editor, and Ramos.
“We’re thrilled to see the talent and hard work of our staff recognized by other industry professionals,” said Patrick Marty, vice president for college relations. “Developing materials that effectively distill the broader value of a Penn College education not only requires imagination but also demands a keen understanding of what makes our brand of experiential learning unique. I congratulate everyone who had a hand in developing these creative pieces.”
There were 495 entries submitted for the 2018 CUPPIE Awards from colleges, universities and providers of private, specialized and secondary education in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Forty-nine schools or organizations were honored on March 15 at the annual CUPRAP Spring Conference in Lancaster.
Judges represented experts in the field of communications and included designers, writers, educators, corporate executives and media professionals.
