On March 29, Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Student Nurses' Association will host a “Glow Walk” to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The walk is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the college's main campus in Williamsport. Walkers will make laps along the pedestrian mall from the Veterans Fountain in front of the Breuder Advanced Technology and Health Sciences Center to West Third Street.

SNA organized the event at the urging of Jesse D. Pellow, a nursing student from Lock Haven.

“I started volunteering for the Cancer Society in the Road to Recovery program as a way of giving back to my aunt who had cervical and colon cancer,” Pellow said. “I now coordinate volunteers who give rides to patients needing transportation to appointments and treatments. I am hoping to raise awareness of the need to fight cancer and the struggle that patients and their families go through.”

To help make the event “glow,” the American Cancer Society will provide purple glow sticks and necklaces.

“The walk is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 with sunset at 7:30 p.m. on March 29, so it should look really great,” said SNA President John M. Matthews, a nursing student from Boalsburg.

Matthews said SNA’s goal is to raise $1,000 through its team, and that it hopes others will establish teams to add to the event total.
