The Field House was filled with colorful innovations on Friday when Penn College was home for the STEM Design Challenge hosted by BLaST Intermediate Unit 17. Students in grades 4-5 and 6-8 competed by using K’Nex pieces to create an environmentally friendly product for the home. Entries ranged from a remote-controlled bed maker to a solar-powered microwave, and from a wind-powered vehicle (which could also clean your home’s exterior and chimney) to a wind-powered house. Teams from 14 area school districts competed in the regional challenge sponsored by ThermoFisher Scientific.
