Members of Penn College's Shotokan Karate Club participated in a record-setting East Coast Collegiate Karate Union event at Lycoming College this past weekend. Eighty-five participants from 10 colleges and universities in five states came together for a spirited two-day training session and tournament, according to coach George T. Vance Jr., who said several Penn College students successfully represented their club and school. Jonathan P. Bailey, of Philadelphia, placed third in his division for kumite (sparring). Kody R. Dibble, of Williamsport, and Jason S. Murphy, of West Grove, dominated their division, placing in both kata (form) and kumite. Dibble placed first in kumite and second in kata, while Murphy placed first in kata and third in kumite.
