One of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s largest academic schools, the School of Health Sciences, has a new dean, assistant dean and assistant dean of nursing.
Sandra L. Richmond, formerly assistant dean of nursing, has been appointed dean of the school. She succeeds Edward A. Henninger, who becomes special assistant to the provost, taking on project-based work. Richmond will provide overall leadership to the school, as well as direct supervision to the departments of Dental Hygiene, Paramedic, Physician Assistant and Radiography.
Wendy A. Miller, who most recently served as director of academic operations, becomes assistant dean of health sciences. She will assist Richmond in overall leadership of the school and have direct oversight of the Applied Health, Exercise Science, Health Information, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant and Surgical Technology departments.
Valerie A. Myers, most recently director of nursing-baccalaureate programs, becomes assistant dean of nursing. She will also assist Richmond with overall leadership of the school and have direct responsibility for all nursing programs.
“I have great confidence in Sandra – who has a wealth of experience as an administrator, educator and clinician – to lead the school adeptly into the future,” said Paul L. Starkey, vice president for academic affairs and provost. “The collective talents and abilities of Sandra and her leadership team of Wendy and Valerie will have a positive impact on the school, which provides graduates who help meet significant workforce needs in the region and beyond.”
Richmond has been employed at Penn College since 2012. Before serving as assistant dean of nursing, she was director of nursing and a full-time faculty member. A registered nurse for 21 years, she has work experience in pediatrics, geriatrics, community health and nursing education.
She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice and a master’s degree in exercise science from Duquesne University, a master’s degree in nursing from University of Phoenix, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Lycoming College, and an associate degree in business administration from the Williamsport School of Commerce.
Miller, who began her employment at the college in 2004, has worked in various departments across campus, from the former College Information & Community Relations (now Public Relations & Marketing) and the Registrar’s Office to Academic Affairs. As director of academic operations, she worked closely with student academic issues, academic policy and the Academic Affairs budget.
She holds a Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Wilkes University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in technical and professional communication from Penn College. Miller expects to complete a Doctorate of Education in educational leadership from Gwynedd Mercy University this spring.
Myers has worked at the college in a variety of roles since 2007, including adjunct and full-time nursing faculty member, clinical director of nursing, and director of nursing-baccalaureate programs. A former member of the U.S. Army Reserves, she has more than 22 years of experience in medical-surgical and pediatric nursing, home health care, case management, nursing management, and staff development.
Myers holds a Doctor of Education in higher education and adult learning and a master’s degree in nursing from Walden University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Lycoming College.
