Fall Commencement to Be Held Dec. 16 at Community Arts Center

A commencement ceremony will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, for the nearly 300 Pennsylvania College of Technology students who have petitioned to graduate following the Fall 2017 semester.

The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. in the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. More than 225 students are expected to march in the proceedings.

The student speaker will be Garrett Davis Corneliussen, of Hickory, North Carolina, who will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in welding and fabrication engineering technology.



Penn College will hold its Fall 2017 commencement ceremony Dec. 16 at the Community Arts Center.Corneliussen, a Dean’s List student, received a 2017 Penn College Award. He served as a Presidential Student Ambassador and as executive vice president, vice president for internal relations and a School of Industrial, Computing & Engineering Technologies senator with the Student Government Association. He was co-founder and vice president of the PCT Bike Club.

He was awarded national and regional scholarships by the American Welding Society and received AWS professional certifications for Certified Welding Inspector and Certified Welder. Corneliussen completed internships with companies including John Deere, Kiewit, Siemens and Tesla. He participated in a Study Abroad/International Exchange Semester in Dornbirn, Austria, in Fall 2015.

Also speaking at the commencement will be J.D. Mather, assistant professor of engineering design technology, who was presented with the Veronica M. Muzic Master Teacher Award – the highest level of recognition for Penn College faculty – in May.

Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour will be joined by state Sen. Gene Yaw, who also serves as chairman of the college’s Board of Directors, as she confers degrees and certificates upon the graduates. The president will also present a Mentorship Award to an alumnus.
