Administrator Named to Board of National Dual Enrollment Accreditor

Tuesday, November 21, 2017

Paul R. Watson II, dean of academic services and college transitions at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been named to the board of directors of the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships.

Watson will chair the Governmental Relations Committee for the board. In that capacity, he will be responsible for developing and maintaining a positive image for concurrent enrollment programs and working to strengthen communication with policymaking federal and state governmental agencies.

NACEP, the sole accrediting body for concurrent enrollment partnerships, works to ensure that college courses offered by high school teachers are as rigorous as courses offered on the sponsoring college campus, sharing the latest knowledge about best practices, research and advocacy.

At Penn College, one of Watson’s responsibilities is overseeing the Penn College NOW dual enrollment initiative, which features partnerships with nearly 50 high schools and career and technology centers across Pennsylvania. Tuition is free for Penn College NOW courses, and students are able to take fewer courses in college to complete their degrees. They can use their credits at Penn College or transfer them to other institutions.

Before his current position, Watson was assistant dean of programs in the former School of Integrated Studies at Penn College. Prior to that, he served as director of mathematics and general education.

Before coming to Penn College, Watson coordinated mathematics instruction and curriculum at Jefferson Central School in Jefferson, New York. He taught mathematics full time at Houghton College and part time at Genesee Community College and the SUNY campuses at Cobleskill and Oneonta.

Watson holds a master’s degree in education and curriculum from the University of Rochester and a master’s degree in mathematics instruction from Syracuse University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Houghton College. He is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership and management, with a concentration in creativity and innovation, at Drexel University.
