Library Director Among Williamsport YWCA's 'Women of Excellence'
Tuesday, November 7, 2017
Madigan Library director Tracey Amey is among this year’s Women of Excellence class at the Williamsport YWCA, one of 14 women inducted during a Nov. 2 banquet at the Williamsport Country Club.
“Tracey has been a breath of fresh air as the director of the Madigan Library at Penn College. She is innovative in finding new ways to expand access to students,” said Paul L. Starkey, vice president for academic affairs/provost. “She is committed to serving her community in meaningful ways, bringing about positive change with the projects she immerses herself in.”
"I love the changing environment of the academic library. Knowing that I have to keep my eye on the trends in library services, technologies and resources keeps me energized and focused on the future," she said. "Being a library director also means I set expectations that dovetail with my personal intentions: to be a good listener, to get to know my community, to accommodate different ways of life."
Amey, who holds a Master of Science Degree in library science from Rutgers University and bachelor's from Rochester Institute of Technology, has been library director since January 2013.
"What I really like about being involved in community and volunteer work is seeing the impact locally," Amey said. "I focus on local events and charities because making our community a better place for every person benefits each and every one of us. The people in my community are my brothers and sisters. We are all in this together, and every single one of us can make an impact for the betterment of all."
Amey is the 11th Penn College employee to be selected in the nine years of the local YWCA’s Women of Excellence program, which pays tribute to “the diverse women who make a difference in Lycoming County” – those who actively participate as community volunteers or role models, or as leaders on committees or boards, and who embody the organization’s values and mission.
